Just Like a Sine Wave

November 22, 2006

Now that the second round of mid-term are over, it’s time to cram for the finals. Alot has been happening for the past month, and definately alot of ups and downs. I refused to listen to my mom, and stubbornly thought that I would never get sick at Waterloo, and then bam, it hit me. I’ve skipped two days of classes so far, I know it’s not alot, but believe it or not, that’s 48 hours of not having to learn the material yourself. Sitting here with a fever and trying to finish my chemistry lab report doesn’t make much progress, so I thought I’d sit here and do a blog which is something that’s much more productive. On a brighter note, I’m happy that I made it as a model for Waterloo’s lunar fest on Jan 31 and Feb 1st =). I know probably for some of you, it’s not a big deal, but back in highschool, I’ve never really made past the second round of auditions for anything, so I’m happy that finally after 4 years, I was able to cross that barrier.

Now, on a more serious note, being here at University, I believe should teach a person alot about responsibilities. As unreal as it may seems, but by being here, you have less freedom and more responsibilies. Doesn’t look like it, yeah? Well, that’s where the responsibility factor comes in. At home, while living with parents, for most of us, our parents did everything for us such as, taking us to the doctor when we’re sick, and etc. As well, back in highschool/middle school/grade school, we’ve got teachers chasing our butts to do well in school. But in university, that’s where we have to make the choices ourselves. There’s no one to force you to go to class, no one telling you that you have to attend all labs, and etc. So, I guess this is where the priority comes in. I’m sure for alot of people, the first priority in unviersity is about school, and to be able to walk down the path of success and be able to cross it to where we want to be. But along the way, there’s many road blocks, most often socially that affects us, and in my biggest opinion, the biggest road block that can affect a person is: relationships.

Ready or not, Here comes exams

October 22, 2006

*shock* Well, considering that back at highschool, I’ve had terms, so my mid-terms didn’t start until winter, so the mid-terms days came pretty quick. For those of you in public school, you guys are probably used to it now. But not me. =/. But hey, if life throws you lemons, you make lemonade, right? You just gotta deal with it. On top of that, the exams are worth ALOT more than highschools. There weren’t many questions either. Both of physics and chem mid-terms were all out of 12 questions, so if you made one mistake, there goes a huge chunk of your mark. And you don’t get credits for knowing how to do it either. It’s all you either did it right or wrong. I guess with a couple hundred of us, they only have time for feeding scantron cards into a machine and comes out with a results that will either make us cry or laugh (Most likely cry). But here’s the thing. I learned that it doesn’t matter what mark you get, as long as you achieve better than everyone else in the class because if everyone gets a low mark, then I’m assuming that they will belcurve the marks. I have a math 127 (calculus I for the sciences) exam tomorrow, so I better get studying now.

Now onto my social part. Ron Edyt is great, even though it’s SO far from my classes. According to the map (which some people say taht it’s out of scale), even UWP is closer to my classes than REV. I hardly spend time on my floor though, which is the East quad, ground floor (A). I’m always at West B, which is my second home. The people are great, and whenever I’m there, I’m always playing ddr (which has been my fav arcade game for far, next to time crisis).

Okay, now I really gotta get studying my Calc exam for tomorrow.

First Weekend @ Home

October 2, 2006

So, here I am sitting at my home in Toronto, and waiting for my friend who goes to Western and is dropping me off at Waterloo. I don’t know what’s taking him so long, but he’s SO H2O Slow. I don’t know where that phrase came from, but I guess it just kind of rhymed and so I decided to combine them together.
Anyway, my friday consisted of class, and a bio 130 lab right before I had to go to the fed bus. I had expected the fed bus to be something similiar to the greyhound. Surprise, surprise, it’s a school bus. But then again, I obviously didn’t think, the ticket for the fed bus was only 9$ whereas, the greyhound is 2x more expensive, so I guess I shouldn’t of be expecting something so luxorious. Anyway, as soon as I boarded the crowded fed bus, and into about half an hour into the ride, I fell asleep, and there were constant shakes and halts that managed to wake me up. But then, I always manage to fall right back to sleep. Kind of reminds me of Bio 140 Lecture; where I manage to wake up and hear the important points the professor makes and then jot them down, but right after, I fall right back to sleep.

 2 hours later…………………..

*opens my eyes*, “WOW, we’re in Mississauga already?”. After getting dropped off at square one, and picked up by my parents, I basically unpacked, and was soo happy to see my bed again, and my nice room which was so clean and lacking alot of things (since 3/4 of my stuff is at waterloo dorm). My Friday was boring, it consisted of that and finishing my chem assignment.

So, with a blink of the eye, it was Saturday, I went down to the Eaton Center with two of my friends. Ofcourse, the first store that I’d always head into is Hollister. When I walked to the very back of the store, I found this gigantic sale going on. I picked up the tag and it read “$9.99″, so I ended up getting a whole bunch of shirts. When I brought them to the register, to my surprise, the balance showesd up as only “$4.49″ for each of the shirts. OH WOW, I never knew Hollister would ever have a sale with that much off, for a shirt that originally cost around “$39.49″, that’s a really good price. Oh, and I also got a new pair of shoes from footlocker, my old Phatfarm shoes were really dirty and it had a visible green stain from my Bio 130 lab, as I mentioned earlier. That was basically my Saturday, oh and let’s not forget about all the studying and the homework which I just love to do.

Onto today….

Well, today consisted of shopping once again, but it consisted of me walking around my neighbourhood after not seeing it for an entire month. I guess I’m happy to be back to my neighbourhood again after 3 month. This weekend went by WAY too fast, at least, it felt like it. I guess 72 hours is just not enough, but then again, time waits for nobody. Man, my phone still hasn’t rang, what’s taking my friend so long?! It’s 8:35 pm, I wouldn’t be surprised if I arrive at Waterloo by 1am on Monday…oh well, what can you do,untill next time,

Taste The Rainbow (2nd week of Bio Lab)

September 28, 2006

Is it just me, or Bio 140 and its component hates me? I fall asleep in the lecture, and this is my second time arriving to the lab almost late. I thought it lab started at 7:30, but then, it clicked in my head that it actually start half an hour earlier. During the lab, I managed to create and sprinkler, since I turned the knob the sink too far, thinking that I was turning it off, and therefore, the people sitting in the row before me felt a splash of water. Now that was just the beginning, while I was setting up for one of the experiment, called the negative stain, I got the nigrosin (a type of stain) in the bacteria broth, which is NOT a good thing, considering that’s contaminating the entire sample. I thought my bad luck would end there, but NO, I guess lady luck was just extremely busy or just didn’t bother to visit me today. So what was in store for me next? While doing the next experiment called the Gram Stain, I managed to splash my lab manual with Iodine solution (again, it’s another type of stain), even though the stain itself is yellow, it reacted with the paper in my lab manual and turned black! So now, there are some big black blotches on one page. Little did I know, that’s not the ONLY place where I’d get the stain on. At the end of every hard work of looking through microscopes and time consuming staining of bacteria cultures, I was finally finished, and thought to myself “hmmm, well at least I didn’t get any stain on myself.” Guess I spoke too fast, while I picked up all the staining bottles, I didn’t realize the Malachite green solution stain bottle was still open, I was so LUCKY that it didn’t get onto my $230 juicy sweatpants (now, you may ask, why are you dumb enough to wear that to a lab? Well if you remembered everything what I’ve said previously, you will have came to a conclusion that I was horribly running late, and I had to push people around on my floor to let me through). The stain, however, DID get onto my hand, and can you guess the colour it turned my hand into? Ofcourse it’s green. Bio 140 lab is bad enough itself, oh man, Murphy’s Law’s are always haunting me for some reason. Alright, well I’m EXTREMELY tired right now, and have to wake up at 8:30 tomorrow, so I’m going to head to bed, until later,

The New Old Beginning

September 27, 2006

As I exited out of highschool, and hopped onto the university student bandwagon, I hoped for a much different scene than this. I excepted to manage partying and getting my work done at the sametime, and didn’t even regard a single word of what my dad said to me: “sleep at 10:30 and wake up at 7″. Ofcourse, in the back of my mind, I thought: “yeah, right, I’d probably be up until 4am every morning”. But being at the state of now, that’s not a bad idea after all, seeing everyday I wake up tired and having bags under my eyes. And, surprisingly, I don’t even party that much, for some reason, I always try to stay away from the noise that’s coming from my floor and to try to study. But then again, my definition of to try composes of the word: procrastination which I haven’t managed to get rid of yet. I guess the most partying that I’ve done was during frosh week, which ofcourse, that week made university seem like a breeze. It was probably one week, which was…hmm…let’s see here…24 hrs/day so times that by 7…soo…168 hours of me being the most social person out of my entire university days (btw, can anyone tell that I just had calc class this morning?). And another thing, I originally planned to have a huge party for my 18th birthday (I just turned 18 about 4 days ago), but ofcourse, that was during the summer before realizing how much of a workload I’ve got, and on top of that, had a few personal issues I had DURING MY BIRTHDAY (not really a happy 18th, huh?).As for my classes, they’re well…okay. Somehow, I managed to fall asleep in every of my class except Chem 120 and Math 127, probably the reason behind that, is cause they’re the only two classes where I’m required to take notes down. But then again, sometimes I like to listen in on Bio 130. It’s one of the most entertaining classes, due to mostly because the prof talks in an interesting manner and it’s the class where I can understand most of the materials, as, it is mostly a review from grade 12 bio. Math 127 and Bio 140 are the complete contrast to my Bio 130 class. Both of them seem to have me completely lost. I just had an assignment to do yesterday in Math 127 and for some reason, I had no idea to do any of the problems, and yet, I managed to finish every one of the question, ofcourse with the help people sitting beside me. Not a good way to gain knowledge. So what’s the moral behind that? DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I know it’s tedious and boring, and personally, I fall asleep every time when I even attempt homework, but hey, you gain the knowledge and during exam time, you’re not gonna have people beside there to help you, unless ofcourse, you manage to be some super knowledge biotech person and shrink one of the “nerds”(pssst, nerds are your friends in uni) and to modify some of the DNA here and there to fit into your pocket and take them into the exam room with you. But then again, if you know how to do that, I’m sure the exam would be a piece of cake anyway. Well, speaking of bio, I better start to crack open my bio textbook, I’m sure it’s got rust on it now(except it’s not medal, and therefore, cannot oxidize, so I’m not sure how that statement works, oh god, here I go again…being all scientific), until later, I’m out for now
